The term “conquer”
Tastes strange on my tongue
For merely to exist
In her presence
Enveloped
In her waves
On a winter’s day
Is an accomplishment
To climb a mountain
Isn’t to conquer it
But merely a relishing in existing so close
To she who has lived so long and seen so much more than I ever have or will
To even think we can conquer
Something so grand
By existing as a speck
In her presence
Only shows we have so much to learn
The only thing we can conquer
Is our own minds
And even then
It would serve us more to observe and revel in the marvel
Of its complex functionings
Revel in the process
And observe with love
So we are not drawn to conquer the minds, hearts, or bodies of those with whom we co-inhabit this earth
But merely revel in their unique and fleeting beauty
Grateful to witness the exact combination of their souls and cells in this very moment
